My maternal grandfather, the late Jesse Funt, loved photography. He had a particular love for trick photographs and comic montages and his darkroom was, to him, both a refuge and a sanctuary. He captured many images of family life in the small town of Industry, New York where he worked as an administrator of a boy’s prison. I trace my love of photography to him and to the work of Weegee, Milt Rogovin, and the many street photographers who teach us to find unexpected beauty in our concrete jungles.

My beloved and I just returned from an amazing five-day trek in Guatemala. Visiting our friends in Antigua, traveling to Lake Atitlan to visit Santiago – it was an amazing journey.
